Normalize saying: “I’m willing to work on that”instead of “That’s just how I am.”

Because more often than not, “that’s just how I am” isn’t truth, it’s protection.

It’s the nervous system doing what it was taught to do. It’s parts of us that learned, at some point, that changing wasn’t safe… or that staying the same was how we stayed loved, accepted, or in control.

So we lock it in. We defend it. We build an identity around it.

But here’s the hard truth:

When we hide behind “that’s just how I am,” we’re not standing in authenticity, we’re standing in avoidance.

And avoidance can feel like certainty .It can feel like self-acceptance. But it quietly keeps us stuck in patterns that no longer serve us.

Growth asks for something different.

It asks for curiosity over certainty. Ownership over defensiveness.And the courage to say:

“Maybe this isn’t all of who I am… maybe this is something I learned.”

So what does curiosity actually look like in real time?

It might sound like:

“What part of me is showing up right now?”“When did I first learn this response?”
“What is this protecting me from feeling?”“What would feel risky about doing this differently?”
“Is this reaction helping me… or just familiar?”

Or even simply: “Am I open to this being something I can shift?”

Because who you are at your core is not rigid. It’s adaptive. It’s capable. It’s allowed to evolve.

And choosing to work on yourself isn’t a rejection of who you are, it’s a deeper commitment to becoming who you truly are beneath the protection.

At The Bigger Picture Clinic, this is the work we gently invite you into. Not fixing you. Not forcing change. But helping you understand the why behind your patterns, so change becomes possible and sustainable.

So next time you feel that reflex rise up…pause, and try:

Happy Third Birthday to The Bigger Picture Clinic 🤍

This year has been one of expansion, depth, and connection.

From attending Psychotherapy Networker and the PESI Psychotherapy Symposium,
to travelling to the US to visit and learn from other incredible clinics…
from completing Internal Family Systems Level 1,
to welcoming new clinicians into our space…
to refining our rooms, running powerful groups, and capturing the heart of who we are in our recent photo shoot…

It’s been a year of leaning in.

But more than the trainings, the conferences, or the upgrades, what makes this clinic what it is… are the humans.

The ones who walk through our doors carrying fear and hope in equal measure.
The ones who show up, stay curious, unblend, soften, and do the work.
The ones who choose courage over avoidance.

This clinic exists because of you.

To our clients, our clinicians, our community, thank you for trusting us with your stories, your parts, your pain, and your growth. It is an honour to witness what unfolds when people are supported to come home to themselves.

Year three has stretched us.

The Clinic is extremely excited to share a new offering coming in March, 2026.

We welcome Ally 💛

Hello, I’m Ally, the heart behind Nourish & Nurture Midwifery. I hold a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Midwifery, and I work as a Registered Midwife in a tertiary maternity hospital in Melbourne, VIC.

Every day, I have the privilege of walking alongside families during one of the most transformative seasons of their lives - it’s an honour I never take for granted. My love for childbirth education grew from watching what happens when parents truly understand the incredible physiology of their bodies and their birth options. With the right knowledge and gentle guidance, I’ve seen parents feel more calm, grounded, and empowered - not only during birth, but well into early parenting.

There is so much information out there, and it can feel overwhelming. That’s why I created a course that is:
holistic and nurturing - honouring the body, mind, emotions, and baby
evidence-based - guided by research and safe practice
guided by real experience - through working as a midwife in a busy birth centre

I have a special passion for the connection between the mind and birth and how feeling supported, safe, and informed can make such a meaningful difference. I also believe partners are an essential part of the story. My classes gently invite and involve partners so you both feel connected, confident, and supported as you step into birth and parenthood together.

My hope is that you leave feeling reassured, seen, and prepared. Leaving with practical tools, a sense of trust in your body, and confidence in the choices you make for your family.
